Tonnage: 815 Tonnes
Location: Winchester
Snashall Steel completed the drawing, fabrication and erection of the brand-new state-of-the-art leisure centre in Winchester to replace the current Leisure centre which is over 40 years old.
The building was comprised of 5 main zones consisting of a 50m 8 lane swimming pool, a 20m teaching pool, a large sports hall, an activity studio, a fitness suite and a central hub.
Some of the key features of the frame include exposed overhead architectural trusses spanning 31M across the swimming pool, secured in place by architectural pins. Over the sports hall, there is a large precambered spliced truss with a combined weight of 16T.
The main rafters over the fitness suite and activity studio were Westok cellular beams. This allowed for the large amount of ductwork and cabling to pass through the beams easily as well as being architecturally pleasing. Overlooking the swimming pool there is also a seating area created with cranked beams with precast terrace seating units sitting on top installed by our erection team.
The building also contained a large amount of architecturally sensitive connections which required close collaboration between Snashall Steel and the design team to achieve the optimal connection details.
