Project: Maddy Moorings Boathouse

Client: Stepnell

Tonnage: 110 Tonnes

Location: Long Wittenham, Oxfordshire

Snashall Steel Fabrications carried out the fabrication and erection of the "Maddy Moorings Boat-house" project for Stepnell Ltd.

The building provides boat storage, crew rooms, changing facilities and a kitchen for the Headington School Oxford Boat Club which in its extensive histo ry has had more than 120 girls who have rowed competitively for Team GB.

Along with the internal facilities, the boathouse has an external, exposed steel ramp which extends out from the main frame.

Due to the sites vulnerability to winter flooding, the main frame is raised 2 metres above ground level. This in turn leaves the circular hollow section columns and hollow section cross bracing exposed to the elements.

Much of the internal steel frame is visible and acts as an architectural feature.
